    Hey all,

I started working on getting my 2k taco road worthy today. This truck has to be one of the easiest vehicles that I have worked on and the parts are pretty reasonable.

The ignition cylinder was worn out when I bought it and the key had to hit a magic spot to turn. A $23 key cylinder and 10 minutes later she fires up smoothly. I started on the engine bay and here is what I found:

    - air intake hose is ripped where it meets the TB. It mates, but will need to be replaced eventually. I'm looking at the Airaid modular intake tube as a replacement, mostly because of the cost.

    - small valve cover gasket oil leak over the exhaust manifold. That can wait for a bit as it's not out of hand.

    - on cold starts I get a rough, stumbling idle. I think that's due to a possible leak on the intake, but I cleaned the MAF and TB while I was in there. I also found that one of the coil packs on the passenger side looks like the PO broke the bolt in the valve cover and built up a new channel using jb weld. That also let go so the coil pack is floating and possibly not making proper contact. I may have to take that in to get it drilled out and re-tapped. The truck threw a CEL when I got it home from the dealer and I have a OBD tool on its way from Amazon to check it out.

    - the fuel gauge is dead. Shows E even though the tank is full. I need to check the wiring as mentioned in another thread, but if thats good and the sending unit needs to be changed, is that integrated into the pump?

    - whats the name of the hose going to the bottom of the TB that carries coolant? I'm thinking its the heater bypass hose but I'd like to be sure when I hit up the parts counter. There was a slow leak on that hose that I wrapped to shore it up until I could replace it.

    - the AC doesn't work and I'll take that to a shop for diagnosis. South Florida summers are brutal and its almost a necessity if I want to drive during the day.

    - buying belts and fluids to change those outl so I have a point of reference. Wires are new but I'll swap out plugs as cheap insurance.

When that OBD tool comes in, I'll see what else needs to be done. I appreciate any feedback on the steps above.

It feels good to have a project again.

Thanks, its been a while since I've worked on a car I've owned but I do manage to get most things done.

2k is the year. Miles are a little high (225k) but it doesn't show that much wear. I picked it up for a shade under $3k. The lowest I could find on Craigslist was almost double that for around the same year.

The valve cover bolts were a little loose around where the leak was so I tightened them down a bit and that seems to help a bit.

Add to the list above, frayed injector wires on one of the passenger side injectors. Looks like just the insulation so I'll see if I can disconnect and heat shrink something so they don't touch.
