    same shit as everyone else
My truck makes the same noise, but both my hondas make the same noise as well. I'm 99% sure its the ABS. I think it has something to do with a large amount of pressure the ABS gets upon startup. Once you touch the gas it releases the pressure and when it releases it you get that "sprehhhh" noise.

Well guess what amigo, just because ya can't hear it doesn't mean its not happening, because it is. ALL EFI systems do this once you switch the key on energizing the starting system, they have to being pressurized. But the noise in question must be newer 2nd gens I guess. I've got ABS but the only sound I hear is the 5 sec. injector prime...

I hear this sound as well. I always thought it was the gear getting dry from sitting and when you take off it rubbed and made a noise that immediately went away. I never worry about it as it has always done this and I have never had an issue. JOE>

Doesnt the prime happen when the key is turned into the on position? This way the system has fuel when the key tells it to try to start. Mayeb different on the Toyotas though?? JOE>

But yea.. if you mean the efi becomes energized and might spin the pump a few revs you're right, if you mean that the system is discharged and pumps up audibly for more than a click of a second, you're wrong or have a leaky injector or something. 5 seconds of pump would definitely indicate a leak, which is no HUGE deal but I don't get that much on my vw that DOES leak back.

And of course, yea. This noise in this thread is with the engine already running.

Just to confirm I am feeling the same thing..

When the "whirrrrrrr" happens to you guys, do you feel like that "rubbing" noise holds back the car a little bit? Like as your rolling forward you can feel whatever is making that noise kind of tug on the momentum?

Nope... No feeling at all. its just a servo noise, like an electric lock motor or something without the click. Zerp would be a better word than whirr.

Here is what I hear, let me try to explain this better with a progression:
*this only happens when I start the car. I can re-enact the sound anytime if I stop the car, turn off the ignition, and restart the car.

    1. I put the keys in ignition and start car.
    2. Put the gear into DRIVE
    3. After about 4-5 feet of rolling forward (no gas needed) I hear the vibration noise near the front passeger side.
    4. The rubbing noise is only heard/felt from the cabin for no more then a second. It cannot be heard from the outside - and when the sound is heard i keep feel a very slight tug in momentum

The noise is completely normal. dont worry about it. It should do it going forward or in reverse. Dont waste time or money looking into it. I did and have regretted it ever since... that whirl sound kicked my wallets butt... haha
