The left brake light on my 09 Tacoma quit working. The right brake light and the high mount brake light work. I purchased a new tail light assembly, plugged it in, and still no brake light. Any suggestions on what would cause this?

Does the 2009 come with the LED tail lights? Have you tested voltage at the socket? Have you checked fuses?

If the right side and the high center stop lights are working that eliminates 90% of the stop light circuit. Check the socket at the stop lamp and go backwards in the circuit. Bad connector or a damaged wire IMO as you have already replaced the left tail light assembly. All that is left is the wires and the connectors to the left side.

Thanks for the replies. I have checked the bulb, even got a new tail light assembly. It does have the LED brake lights. I have checked the fuses and they are OK. I have not checked the voltage. I was afraid it may be a wiring issue, as those can be timely and expensive to run down. I will check the voltage and go from there. Thanks!

Try swapping out brake lights to either side. See if they work on the other side of the truck

Did you ever find out what the issue was? I have the same sort of problem on my 08, except it is on the right side.

I did! I crawled under the truck and looked up and noticed that a wire was dangling from a splicer. I got a new splicer, reconnected the wires, and it works! At the splicer, there was a red wire and a blue wire coming from the front of the truck on the left side and a blue wire then continued from the splicer to the light. Hope this helps.
