I've got a leaky right side front axle seal (where CV axle enters the front diff)on my 97 Tacoma. Before I go and replace it I have a question. I've heard there has been some issues with how far you drive the new seal in. Supposedly, if you drive it in too far it will leak. Can anyone shed some light on this. Thanks!

Yeah, I screw up and forget how to do it every time but pretty sure the way I found that works is to just press it in a little so it is square and then use the seating of your cv to push the seal in.

Ok I'll explain! The driver side you drive all the way home. Witch means push it in till it stops. Do this gently! No using a 10lb hammer. Smaller the better take your time. Now the passenger side is completely different. You just push the seal in so it's counter sunk into the housing. Maybe 1/8 of an inch showing. I've never measured just assuming. Again with both sides use a seal driver so the seal goes in straight. Take your time don't rush and it's pretty easy. I was the one who was having problems with pushing the seal in too far.

Ahhh! This was on an 04 so I'm not sure if your 97 is different.
