Yesterday I had my truck in 4-lo for a bit. When I tried to shift back to 2wd, it would not disengage. I was ready to remove the front drive shaft when I tried applying a few judicious taps on the actuator with the handle of a wrench. When I restarted the engine, the 4wd disengaged. I got on this site after I got home and found this thread:

If I had known about this problem earlier, I would not have bought this truck. I am getting too old to do such a major modification. Is there a local individual who does this?

Most likely, you haven't been using the 4x4 much at all. You need to use it at least once a month in the dirt to activate to keep the parts moving, otherwise it will stick like that and be a bitch to disengage. If it wont' disengage, keep going back and forth and turn left/right while doing it in different directions so it can line up and disengage earlier.

Twin stick is awesome, but not necessary.

Tried all that. I generally engage the front axle about once a month or more often. The previous owner apparently never used 4wd, but I have had the truck for over two years without any problem. Gonna start carrying a 1/2 inch socket wrench and a couple of sockets until this is sorted out.
