Damn,... I bought a brand new 2014 Tacoma (4wd, Off-Road, Access) on April 2nd. I had it up to the Sierra for its first adventure last week and on my way home, coming down from Sonora Pass on hwy 108, a large rock - apparently fallen off of an oncoming dump truck - hits my windshield. BAM!!! I managed to not let it ruin my day, but did discover later that it hit my hood first - leaving a dent and deep scratch. It looks like I'll get the windshield replaced with OEM glass (glad I thought to ask), but they're going to have to sand the hood down and blend the paint. This sucks; I've only had it two months! They're a good shop, and they'll do a good job, but I hate to have a repainted hood so soon. I'm halfway tempted to just leave it as a reminder of my first adventure (which was awesome BTW), but it's down to the metal, so rust is an issue. Incidentally, the same shop repaired my '01 about 10 years ago, which also involved blending the paint on the hood. You could see it if you looked closely, but it was fine. I'm just not into it on my brand new baby

Maybe you could have a clear bra put on the hood if future scratches bug ya that much :notsure:

TRD Exhaust, Mobtown bolt on sliders and aluminum tailgate reinforcement, Reverse lights changed to yellow turn signals, LED pods added for reverse, ADD W1 oil catch can, Total Chaos bed reinforcement, rear diff breather to taillight mod, 12" combo led bars behind lower grill wired to high beams, Toyota led bed light kit, 400 watt anytime mod, SSO slimeline front bumper.
That sucks 2001. Seems like a pretty decent sized scratch and if its dented, I would probably lean towards getting it fixed. Especially since you have a good history with the shop.

Thanks for the suggestion ziggynagy. Not sure a clear bra would have covered it, though. Scratches here and there don't bug me so much, after all, it's a truck... but this one is deep (see the pic I added).

I feel your pain, I had a rock or bolt hit mine right at the bottom passenger side, next morning there was a 10" long crack straight up 4 months after I got the truck. I had Toyota put a new oem windshield in.

Thanks. Glad you got the oem windshield. The shop confirmed that I'll be getting one as well.

I feel your pain, if it makes you feel better I got a chip on the windshield of my 2010 I bought used two weeks ago. Actually got the chip 2 minutes into my test drive, getting on the highway. A car changed lanes in front of me, kicked up a rock and smack. I really didn't make a big deal with the dealer, but perhaps I should have.

    Yes, a sickening feeling indeed.

Anyway, I got her back today and the shop did a fantastic job with the repair. I get the sense they felt my pain and wanted to help alleviate my suffering by doing a great job. Nah, just a shop that takes pride in doing quality work I suppose. At any rate, they're called Body Best, in Sonoma, CA. Look em up if you're in the area and have the misfortune of needing such services.

I bought a touchup kit called Dr. Colorchip and it worked great for me. I had quite a few chips in my hood and was able to make them pretty much disappear with their kit.
