I have a 12 DCLB with 40k on it that drove me ape shit with the driveshaft vibs. I have only had the truck for 4 months now. And most of my driving is on secondary roads in the 30-50mph range. And every time I would back off. Then get back into it. I would get massive drive shaft vibs. Well I know that people have went to great lengths to get this fixed. Without much luck. So I went ahead and dropped it off at Jim Hudson in Columbia,SC. Thinking it wouldn't do much for me. But just wanted it on record when/if they ever came up with a fix. Well they put a new driveshaft in it. And its smooth as can be now. Have they finally came up with a fix? Or did I just get lucky on the stars/angles alignment? My rep said that it had a upgraded mid bearing/carrier. So if you hadn't had your shaft replaced lately. You may want to try it again. MAybe they have a new part now. I will see if I can get the exact number. If someone had this done a while back. We can compare and see if its different. But after 400 miles all is good. And I cant be happier. Because I was hyper focused on it all day when driving.LOL

on my 2005 it was u-joints getting worn that made it do similar. carrier bearing can cause that to.

on your invoice from dealer there should be a part number.

    cheers,

Yeah I saw a YouTube vid of a brand new one doing it. The guy put his GoPro under the truck. You could see it going all kinds of crazy. Somebody had been greasing the hell outta my U joints. I guessed in a effort to keep em packed tight. To try and help-it didn't work. The misalignment/vibs could have contributed to early wear on your U joints. It cant be good on seals and joints when you a situation like this in your drive train.

I've noticed a vibration in my truck as well, only above 65 mph. I'm thinking it could be driveshaft related. should there be any play in the carrier bearing? My shaft moves like 1/2" up and down in the bearing.

My 06 Reg Cab w/55K has the same 'shudder' issue on acceleration. I spoke w/our local Toyo dealer service dept and they told me the only fix is a new shaft. I know my u joints are shot now too and will replace the carrier bearing, as well.

I'm out of warranty so this will be all out-of-pocket.

I hope the 'newly designed' carrier bearing you mentioned will mean that I won't be doing the same repair at 100K miles!

I'd be interested in the part number for the new bearing, if you could post it.

Mossy I assume you are out of warranty. I would not go the factory route. Look into a custom one piece. Or another aftermarket option. Because Toyota wants a ridiculous $1500 for the shaft.

No carrier bearing on a reg cab driveshaft :)

Are the u-joints loose or binding? If you grease them regularly, 55k is unusually early for bad joints.

    Just to follow up:

Both U joints were dry. (No factory zerks.)
The front joints was 'loose'. Rear not loose, just dry.

So new u-joints and ALL the vibrations are GONE!

I love my truck again. :)
