Fixing to install ICONs and I have two questions.

After reading uncountable posts on pros and cons of the different ways to upgrade the suspension on my Tacoma, I decide to go with ICON 2.5 extended travel with ICON tubular UCAs up front and 2.0 shocks with an ICON 3-leaf AAL in the rear. I plan on doing all of this myself. I thought I had read enough so that I wouldn't have to ask too many questions, but two questions have already popped up.

    First:

The direction say to grease the bushings prior to install. What type of grease?

    Second:

Does the grease go between the metal pin and the urethane part or between the urethane part and the opening in the arms' end?

Oh, a third questions before I even finish typing this.

And what is the blue stuf in the little tube?

You can see the little tube of blue stuff near the center of the picture.

Coat the urethane bushings inside and out with any grease you normally use, I use super lube because it's clear and odorless. The stuff in the tube is locktite use it on the cap nut on the top of the tapered bearing. Did this same mod except for dakars vs AAL and I am stoked. good luck with the Uca bolts I just cut my old ones off and used new ones inserting them in the reverse orientation need to use a couple of screwdrivers and levers to get the urethane bushings coaxed in to the strut column then button it all up and make sure you fill the zero fittings with more grease to get all the areas coated.

Thanks. I thought it might be loctite but the directions that came with the UCAs say to use red loctite.

All good info, just did the exact install a week ago- you're gonna like it. Dial it all in and drive around ( bumps) to get it to all settle. Check it all for correct ride height, remember to add 1/8" on the drivers side- gives a 1/4" at the wheel to compensate for the lean. After you're satisfied and everything has settled, get your alignment done. I'm really liking my Icon setup.

NLMOOmar and Vorra65, thanks very much for the info, reminders, and advice. Do both of you drive a DCSB V6? Did you adjust the height any up or down--other than then the 1/8" for the lean? How much lift did you get after the settling? I ordered everything last Tuesday. The UCAs came in Friday. I am excited to get started, but everything else is still sitting in Little Rock, Arkansas--about 140 miles from me. The rest is suppose to be here Tuesday. I put in a request for the parts to be held at the local office. That way I can pick the parts up at 7:30 and get started. I hope.

I adjusted both sides to the ride height I wanted, then drove pretty
aggressively in some bumpy shit. Took it home, readjusted and
then drove some more and checked again- it didnt move.
Checked it once more right before the alignment.

Side note here, the arms are the most time consuming. Had to do
some bending of the inner wells to remove and install the arm pivot
bolt. I went right a out 2.5 up in the front and the spring pack gave
me 1.5 in the rear. I dont tow, so set it all at -.25 in the front. Actually
looks level or a little negative rake to look at it. Have fun!

I took it to 6 turns up from the setting out of the box yielded 3-1/4 inch lift I didn't mess with lean since the Dakar leafs need to settle out some they yielded 3-1/2 in the back. I did go with $170 Firestone lifetime alignment since I will be going back as I add winch and springs settle some. BTW I didn't have to bend any sheet metal to reinstall new UCA bolts, but on the drivers side I did have to loosen 2 mounts on the 3 hard plastic lines that run up the side of the fender and just coaxed the bolt in between them them a little to get it in UCA tower. The 3rd poly bushing you have to go through was a PITA on both driver and passenger side to get aligned just right and work the bolt thru, didn't help that hands and bushings have grease all over them which adds to the fun but it will go.

Why use a spacer when you can just adjust the COs. Dont give up, it doesnt have to be down to the millimeter. I actually drove around with the driver side 1/2" taller for a while but it settled after I put steel skids on. Btw even if you do get it perfect it will change based on how full ur gas tank is.

Cliffs: Get it within 1/4" or 3/8" and dont be OCD.

What he said, no spacer- that's for the guys that run the billies and OME's.
Crank the drivers side 1/8 inch ( which is 1/4 at the wheel) more than the pass. and drive it. It will settle with time . That's the really nice part about the Icons, unload the suspension-loosen the grub screw and adjust till your little heart is happy. Do spray some type of lube on the threads of the c/o so it doesn't gall. Small adj. will more than likely not require a new alignment.

I'm reading after I just ordered a toytec spacer for lean! So if Icons=no spacer, right? Is the spacer bad to install with the icons?

No spacers. Just adjust the driver side adjustment ring one rotation higher. Or passenger side one rotation lower. One rotation is a little less than 1/4 inch of vertical height adjustment.

I got the light racing control arms from wheelers and they came with super lube for the ball joint. The instructions say to grease the bushings with their grease (different than super lube) supplied and not to use any others. What is I use the super lube for?
