I'm thinking of adding some small lamps into the two bed pockets and I recently took my 7 pin trailer harness down to a 4 pin and ran that up through the large stoarge bin on the left side. This left a black power wire that I capped off and is unused. Can I simply tie a switch into that wire, then to the lamps? Since I'd be using a driving lamp kit it should come with an in line fuse.
    Am I right? Any suggestions?

The black wire was the always on wire from the 7pin connector.

You are correct that the black is 12 volt power but it is only hot when the key is in the acc position in the ignition. So if you don't mind digging your keys out every time you need the bed lights then yes you can.
