Hi, I have a 2003 stock Tacoma Reg cab Pickup 4x4. I was hoping to find out if:
*I put a A.R.E mx cap with Yakima racks installed.
*Or a Leer 180 or Leer 180 CC with racks installed.
Would my truck would fit in my garage?

    ~My garage is 80" Tall

(I measured the Yakima racks and they are 5" above the ARE caps)

~If I have room I would like to keep a 10' long 4" piece of PVC on the ladder rack. ( but, that might be pushing it)

    Thanks, Bryce

After reading online I think I am leaning toward the A.R.E MX over the LEER 180.

    Pretty much stock right now
The racks on my A.R.E. MX will hit my overhead door if the door is not retracted above the top of the door opening. Found that out the hard way. My opener is set to pull the door above the opening now. I have about a two inch lift on the truck, which leaves little wiggle room.

How high is it from the top of your racks to the ground?

My guess is that: After MX cap and racks are installed on my 2003 stock Tacoma. The top of my racks should be 78" off the ground(?????). I have 80" to work with.

To the top of the bed rails: about 48" To top of cap: about 78". The rest may not help you. My rack is home made. I have 82" of clearance on the door hight. I just make it under with this setup.

Its going to be tight if you have 80" clearance. Don't know how tall a factory rack will stand on top.

The preinstalled Yakima are 5" off of the top of the cap. (5" at the highest point)
How tall is your homemade rack off of the cap?

I like the idea of a homemade rack. I was considering doing the same thing. I just wasn't sure what I could make it out of. I was thinking of maybe trying PVC...

I think the upcharge for the preinstalled racks is about $400 bucks. But I am not 100% sure. It might have been $450..

    Yeah, you have me worried..
From the ground to the bottom of my cap is 47" . Your is 48" and you said you had a 1" lift...

So if the top of your cap is 78" high. Mine will probably be 77"
80" - 77" = (3" of room to work with) the racks might hit :(
I re-measured my garage and it is 80.5" tall... 81" tall if you do NOT count the weather striping that hangs down.

I don't see how the top of your mx cap is 78'' with a 1" lift.?? (Tacoma are 70" tall) I will need to call ARE and see if they will tell me how much there caps sit above the Tacoma roof line... The guy at the ARE dealer said 4" but I am starting to think he might of given me bad info and it might be more like 6".

I'll recheck the hight. It was raining when I measured, so I was not going for precision. The MX is only a few inches above cab hight, so that sounds off.

I see your from Chantilly. Is the 1862 battlefield preserved? Our local regiment was in that fight. Would like to see it sometime.

If you re-check the measured that would be great! Thanks

There is a huge preserved Battlefield about 15mins from my house.

It finally stopped raining, so I rechecked the hight today. I'm about 73 1/2" to the top of the MX. The rack adds a little over six inches to that.

I'll have to stop there next time in the area. May be awhile though.

Thanks, yeah, 73.5" sounds about right.. (add 5" for Yakima racks should put right around 78".)

I was emailing back and forth with ARE and this what I came up with:
1995- 2004 stock Tacoma with MX cap with Yakima racks should be 78"
1995 - 2004 stock Tacoma with DCU and preinstalled aluminum rack should be 81"
