Mine would just rust through on painted spots as well.

I am curious if someone wants to look... Where the spot under the drivers door is rusting. Is the steel separating there inside the frame? I looked back at my pics... the factory hole in the frame I can see the steel inside, it looks much more pushed away from the outside piece than it should.

Forgot I had done a camera inspection of my frame a while back. Think I did the drivers side 1st... Nothing really note worthy rust wise on the inside. As its been said/mentioned it appears its forming between the sandwiched steel.

Thanks. I did not know about the bankruptcy issue. I looked into it and, not that it matters for this discussion, but Dana went into chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2006, and emerged from it in 2012 as Dana Holding Corp. They trade on the NYSE as (DAN). They are doing over 1.5 Billion dollars of revenue each quarter. According to what I read they are very much alive although they are a different company today then they were before the process.

I believe too that that the drive shafts on our trucks are made by Dana, I know my 2009 is. Dana Spicer drive shaft on label, etc...

I am very much with you on the frame fault issue. In my opinion, Toyota is squarely at fault here. I wish that one day a competent group of attorneys can hold Toyota's feet to the fire and make them pay for each rusted frame.

I echo your sentiment. F-U Toyota and your shitty, frame rot, rust cancer frames!

I think there may be more than just bad frames going on with our trucks; electrolysis or something? My '07 lived near the ocean in Southern Florida for several years, bad conditions, but not like driving on salted roads. It's frame is rusty and so is everything under the hood. Other cars from the same parking lot aren't in as bad condition so something seems awry. It has a whopping 33K miles, and had under 30k when it came to So. Cal. 1 1/2 years ago. I think we need a specialist that knows about electromotive force or whatever may be at the root of this to start diagnosing the problem. If it's only effecting 2nd gen trucks with the plastic beds that's a start toward the thought of it being an electrolysis problem. If it could be proven to be a faulty design then everyone with rusty trucks would probably be taken care of before an absolute failure.
