Has anyone had any issues with CV boots cracking/tearing due to the increased angle when using 885 coils in cold temps (negative 20-40F not uncommon) like we have here in interior Alaska?

I'm getting close to ordering an OME pkg and would get the 884 coils rather than 885's if folks have issues with torn boots in cold temps. I haven't heard of any, but thought I would ask - thanks.

Interested in this also. My lift hasn't been installed yet...No time. I will have to see my fins before I make a decision. Have you looked at the CV boot mod? Sliding the boot back to create more separation between the fins.

Thanks. No, I have not looked at the CV boot mod. I'm only running 265/75s so if I thought 884 coils would be less grief I might get them over the 885s. I don't want any headaches down the road.

sounds like 884's it is! these will give you just under 2 inches of lift, is the extra 1/2 inch worth the potential headaches and worries? if you add a bumper you will want the 885's.....

Whichever you do, you might think about getting the longer 3 studs on the top of the strut. This way if you do want to go taller you could use a spacer. Without having to disassemble the strut.

The coils should depend on what setup you have.
    I am assuming you have a 2nd gen 2005+

883 - These are not meant for 2005+, but some people are asking for them. I'd assume you would only want them on a 4cyl to replace stock or go for a slight lift

884 -Only if you are keeping everything else stock in terms of added weight

885 - Recommended if you are doing an offroad bumper. I would anticipate them being very stiff for stock weight

886 - Needed for those with offroad bumper and winch. I drove around for a bit with 885s, front bumper, and a winch. The truck would nosedive noticeably.

Using a spring that is not matched to weight will result in adverse effects for steering, stopping, and handling. It is much better to be safe above all else and accept any resulting issues... or simply stay away from the mod.

If you are worried about the boots, CVJ has extended length boots.

EDIT: Did a quick search and found two things:
    1. You may try spraying the boots with silicon spray periodically.
    2. There's rumor that thermoplastic CV boots may hold up better. I don't know if there are options to make custom boots. I don't think I'd bother unless there's a premade option.
