They should make it a little smaller and more efficient. Something in the Jeep Wrangler/Ford Bronco size.

Or just buy the Ford Bronco concept and tweak it.

I looked at one ( trail teams ) before I bought my Tacoma...I like the overall design..but for more than 2 people it's not the best design...and the blind spots are legendary.

Does this mean there is less chance of ever discontinuing the Tacoma?

They would never do that unless they started building hydro powered compact trucks

Agreed, but at least the taco makes sense long travel ifs.

They should offer solid axles on the front with the trd packages and I guess keep the ifs on the base models, I mean at least it'd finally makes sense to pay the price difference between the two

True. Long travel is nice for high speed desert. But for those of us into wheelin solid axles work much better.

Can you be positive though? Tacoma is currently the leader of the small-midsize pickup, which is why (IMO) they haven't updated it realistically in ten years , but is no longer the most fuel efficient and other trucks are catching up. We like the competition because it gives Toyota incentive to finally update the Tacoma with all the features we want. However, once the Tacoma starts dropping in sales (Which it may never do), Toyota may just stop producing them, that is what companies seem to do these days. They aren't obligated to redesign it.

So that's why I ask if this provides a better chance of keeping the Tacoma.

Wouldn't that be sick, solid axles on the off road and a long travel set up on the trd sport. XD

We very seriously considered the FJ for my wife when it was time to replace her vehicle. She liked the overall look and idea of the FJ.

HOWEVER, we are in the stages of talking about having kids. I've talked to people at work who have 4 doors and who have the half doors. There would likely be one in my driveway if they offered it with 4 doors. Bonus: there would have been no question if it had a removable top.

She is happy with her 4Runner Trail though :D

^Same here, my wife liked the FJ but we bought a 4runner because we have kids. I'd rather see the FJ as a trail vehicle than a kid carrier though.

It'd be nice if it could do both. Part of passing on heritage and tradition requires including the kids. I don't mean that as harsh as it sounds when I read it back.

Another point that I think I forgot to add to my previous post. Jeep wranglers popularity was actually dying down before they introduced the 4 door model. Now you see them everywhere you turn. I think Toyota would be pleased financially to add a 4 door FJ.

My guess would be that there was too much market overlap (or very little, but still overlap) between Truck and SUV owners. The FJ probably had a struggle fitting into a pack where the Tacoma was seen as a rugged truck and the 4Runner has equal appeal (both aesthetically and functionally). That's likely why they decided to axe the FJ. The market was too grey of an area and too small. Much for the same reasons, I would presume, that there are no more -or very few- two door SUVs being built by any mfr at the moment. The Tacoma/Tundra will always be the work and play truck while the 4Runner fits as a play SUV and something to haul kids to soccer. The FJ didn't have any real qualities that the other two couldn't make up for that would appeal to other demographics simultaneously.

Sorry I'm a marketing major so I had to throw in my thoughts on this one.

That's why it needs a solid axle. XD
