I blew the front cv joint on my 08 tacoma. i have the axle....do I really need to remove the bearing or can the whole assembly just slip off and then go back on to the new axle. I only ask because I saw a video of someone changing out the axle and they removed the wheel bearing I think( I could be way off on this). Obviously, this is my first time doing this....any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can disconnect the sway bar, and the lower ball joint, and this should give enough room to remove the CV axle. I have replaced a hundred of these CV axles and never had to remove the bearing.
