Hey everyone, I was hoping someone might have purchased a Thule MOAB roof basket and mounted it up to the stock OEM double cab roof rack. I'm just trying to figure out if it is a simple as buying it straight up and mounting it or if I have to buy other hardware to bolt it up like crossbars or other mounts?

Thanks and pictures would be appreciated if ya have em.

    Cheers

Hey Guys, nope never got a reply. I ended up buying a used Thule Playpen basket. It's the same as the MOAB but just a model older. The stock mounts worked with the stock Tacoma crossbars. I think i just had to turn the front mounts with the Playpen, MOAB might be the same. I ended up having to search high and low to find the extension for it. The roof bars were to far apart to just bolt up so it was needed for spacing. Ebay saved my a$$ on this one because the Playpen extension was obsoleted.
With the extension your good to go.

    Hope this helps!
    Cheers

Just an observation/question but how much does those baskets weigh? The factory rack only holds 100lbs. That wouldn't seem to be much load capacity minus basket weight.

I have the Yakima Load Warrior with extension and it weighs 48lbs. I don't have the OEM rack/crossbars so I will be using the Yakima ones. I had damn near 250+ pounds on there with my ranger. My gas cans and spare 265/75/16 Toyo MT with 16*8 MotoSport somethin or other wheels (that thing weighed 75lbs ish). Add some ammo cans and you are at capacity quick. But usually all roof rack manufactures tell you the capacity is 200lbs and that is moving weight not static weight. But I read somewhere on here that a guy bent his OEM cross bars with an old heavy canoe up there. Keep heavy stuff in your bed and you will be alright.

Basket weighs 45lbs. Good to point out for those finding this thread in search - you need to be realistic with what you're needs are from a cargo perspective.

In my case, it's perfect for my hockey gear. But judging from the above reply I have to start shopping an extension for my basket...

Do you have any pictures and length of basket with extension!? Very much appreciate any info. I have a Thule Moab that turns out to be to short for space between factory roof rack. Really don't want to have to sell basket as I already have it.

I was afraid of that! I may jury rig it or put it up on my shell for my upcoming trip just because I don't have time to get a baja rack in time and then sell it after. I want to throw jerry cans and chainsaw up there just to give some extra room for bikes and gear under the shell.
