I have been lurking here for some time trying to figure out what I need to do. I have not quite seen what I needed posted, so I would sure appreciate a little help.

I have a 2006 Access cab TRD 4wd and the TSB was not done. I bought this truck used, and it was too late to have it done, or so the dealer says. If that is not the case, I would love to know.

Anyway, I haul a round bale (700-900lbs) of hay weekly and it really squats the truck down. I will also pull a small camper trailer with this truck, but it does not squat the rear like the bale does. I know I need new shocks anyway, and I am trying to decide what to do about the springs. I really do not have the money to go all out on a new pack at $1000 or more. I DO NOT intend to lift the truck. If it goes up, I am ok with that, but it is not my goal. This is my daily driver as well as my only hauler. I do some off road/rough road, but it is to get to a fishing or hunting spot, not just for the sake of offroading.

So, the question: Can I make a hellwig 979 helper set with new Bilstien 5100 shocks front and rear work, or do I NEED to go a different route? If so, what route?

Will the helpers take some of the stress off the original springs, or add a stress that will cause a failure?

    Thanks for the help

Edit to add: The more I can do myself, the better, but I am not a mechanic, and beyond some basic tools, I will be limited in what I have available.
