Good job on this- as others have said, a little reinforcement and it will be great for light loads. It must just be a Mid-west thing, but "cornhole" has an entirely different meaning- it makes me laugh every time I see it.

I wouldnt try spray paint. Wood really soaks up spray paint. Go to Lowes and buy a gallon of an oil based brush on. I have used the Rustoleum Commercial in black. Nice and thick covers well. With this type you wouldnt really need primer.

^^I agree with the above. For wood, this would be the best bet as the oil based will cover thick and be much more durable.

Not to rain on anyones parade but it doesn't matter how you finish it, untreaded spruce lumber won't last any time in the weather. If you want it to last I would rebuild it outta treated pine. Building it would be faster the 2nd time as you can use the pieces you have already cut as templates if you dismantle it first.

If you're set on making it work as it is, use an oilbase exterior deck stain, you might get a year out of it if you're lucky.

    My .02 :)

Agreed, the wood will not handle water or weather very well. Though if you are not leaving it on the truck all the time this may not be a major short term problem. Finish it with an opaque (solid) deck stain. It will hold up much better than paint will.
