hey everyone, plan on doing a lot of maintenance this weekend on the Tacoma. Its an 04 prerunner v6. Im already going to change the oil and fliter, fuel filter, brakes and maybe the timing belt. Does anyone have any suggestion of what is the best brand of everything to use? and if I am forgetting anything or should probably check and change while im at it feel free to tell me. Thanks!

If your going to do the timing belt, buy the timing belt kits on ebay. Will come with other belts, water pump, and pulleys and prob some other things. ONLY use oem parts for this. Same goes for spark plugs and wires. Denso duel tipped or ngk. Dont forget to change air filter. Oem or the pro dry ones people on here use. Clean throttle body and MAF sensor while your at it.

You can buy oem coolant for the timing belt job at the dealer (doesnt seem to be a shippable item). Also, you can use a synthetic oil and differential oil

Plugs and wires. Everything ^^^ he said and grease the drive shaft if you haven't in a while.

    Also, check the PCV Valve

Maybe run some seafoam through the intake and in the oil BUT... do it before you change the oil.

If you get a new PCV valve, a new grommet will save you a headache.

Agreed. I just did this to my truck and chanced reusing the grommet. I had to rip both out with pliers and then walked a block down to Toyota dealer for the grommet.

When was the last time you had the Auto transmission serviced? Flushed, etc?

If you're really energetic..... Flush out old power steering fluid. Flush out the old brake fluid too.

LOL that's my story too, only I broke the new PCV valve trying to install it. The old grommet grudgingly came out in four or five pieces.

Good thinking Janster, plus Tyler, please take care installing new belts. Over-tightening the belts will cause a lot of strain on your alternator, AC compressor, PS pump, water pump and crankshaft. The belt tensioners work very well and have little feel to know when they're tight enough. If somebody here can chime in on how to do this correctly, me and probably quite a few other people will appreciate it!

thanks for all the feedback everyone. If the belts are something you have to perfect when replacing, then I will more than likely take it to the dealership.

The dealership will charge too much! Try a reputable shop if your not gonna do it

Theres videos out there that will show you how to change them and put them in the right way. No need to go to a dealership. They'll charge you an arm and a leg. They quoted me $1,207.45 to change my timing belt, water pump, and thermostat. Told them to kiss my ass
