Should Tacoma be my first truck?

Hello friends. I am thinking about buying my first truck in the next few months. It's been quite a lot of research and from what I can tell Tacoma is the way I want to go.

I've had a difficult time using the Toyota website to configure a Tacoma.. it's frustrating to say the least, I don't understand why you can't configure options and build it out like most other vehicles on the internet, it seems like there is a lot missing.

I have visited my local dealer and told them i'll buy the first 2015 TRD Pro Tacoma they get. (September?)

My questions for the community are:
1.) Should I wait to buy a Tacoma? Will there be a new Tacoma model coming out?
2.) What are the must-haves for a new truck in way of options or accessories? i.e. light bars, wheels, etc..
3.) What are some of the things I should have the dealer install? not install?
4.) Where is a good place to buy parts and accessories? (online).
5.) Are there any kind of immediate upgrades for Tacoma that people automatically do?

    Thanks for the help.

A Tacoma should definitely be your first truck! I just got my first truck/Tacoma in october and can't believe I waited so long.

I just looked at the 2015 trd pro line and it looks a little meaner and comes leveled out. If you plan on getting the truck and not modding it that may be the way to go. If you plan on lifting it down the road and getting new wheels/tires this may be more money spent than needed.

What is going to be your primary use, on or off road?

I would get the most basic RC, AC, or DC you want and do all the upgrades yourself. Makes it more unique and gives you a project. Unless you don't want to do mods yourself, then get the TRD Pro. In terms of lighting, wheels, etc., it all depends on what you want to do with the truck, i.e. mall crawling or hardcore off roading.

Technically it will be on road most of the time, I just want to have something that looks mean and has a bit of a lift. I live in Texas so we might be taking it on some road trips to the coast. I want it to still be comfortable on 3 hour drives.

    Thanks for the reply

If your not gonna go 4 wheelin and you just want it to look sick. I would go with the sr5 prerunner and get a spindle lift with 5100s all around and a new leaf pack with some 285/75/16s.

I would go with the 2015 TRD PRO :)

The Toyota Southeast website is garbage, if you want to build out a truck on toyotas website use a zipcode from the West coast or the Northeast. Edmunds and Truecar are also good for pricing options.
As for options and who to install them you need to consider your mechanical aptitude and your budget. If you are handy with tools and comfortable working on a brand new vehicle many mods can be done in your own garage saving money for more parts. Also if you are a decent human most TW members will work for beer.

Truth, my 8 year old son installed my side steps for me, the shop wanted like $150 to install. You can really save some change doing it yourself

The tacoma is a great base truck with some awesome aftermarket upgrades. Do some research, see what your needs wants and budget allow, then go for it

I really want to but I don't know how much longer I can wait! This is what my salesperson at Toyota is telling me:

    "Good morning Jeff,

As of right now we are still getting 2014 models in, and they are not in build out for 2014 yet. We will get more information when Toyota starts allocating the 2015 tacomas.

So I still do not have pricing, equipment, or an ETA...very frustrating for both of us......

I will keep you posted with ANY info. I get!!"
