285/70/17s on 17x9 Motos with 2.5" Lift

Ok, so I've searched, and still trying to get a definitive answer. Sorry for posting something that's probably been beaten to death. I'm planning on putting 285/70/17 Cooper Discoverer STTs on 17x9 MotoMetal 955s on my 2010 Taco with Bilstein 5100s set at 2.5" in the front and Toytec 1.5" AALs in the rear. Will this setup rub without spacers, and if so, how bad? And if it would rub, would spacers (and what size) fix the problem? Thanks in advance for answering a question that I'm sure has been answered before!

 

You'll be good. Just need to trim the front wells.

 

Would spacers eliminate the need to trim the wheel wells, or do I have to trim regardless? Thanks for the reply!

 

It would but make sure you get spydertrax if you do decide to run spacers, 1.25" should be plenty

 

Are you running spacers for a wider stance?

Don't have experience with spacers, but yes i think you would still have to trim.

 

Well I like the look of the wider stance, but I think I would get a little wider with the 17x9 motos already. I was just gonna add them if they would eliminate the need to cut on the truck mainly...I may still add them anyway even if I'd have to cut either way, just depends on the way it looks without them...

reviving thread instead of making a new one since my question pretty much relates. my trucks lifted with 5100s at 2.5" but has a 1" block at the back. im just curious if my rim and tire combo will work, my rims offset is -8 and the back spacing is 4.625. and i'd like to run 285/70 mickey thompson baja mtzs.

will i run into any problems? i intend on trimming the wells. thanks!

 

Talking to some people at a local shop they told me the mtz's rubbed the least from thier experiance because the tread on them isn't very big on the sides of the tire. If you have trouble understanding what I'm trying to say compare pictures of them to the nitto terra grapplers. It seems 4.5 is the golden rule and that will even require some wheel well trimming, I don't know for sure about that extra tenth of an inch, but there's a few guys on here that run mtz's, if they dont chime in just search around for them.

 

Can you even get the Cooper stt's in 285/70/17??? I thought the new version with the tek3 didn't come in that size, only the older version did? Or are you buying the older version of them?

 

I just decided to go with the mtz because they look aggressive but not to the point of swampers, never thought that the tread would be slightly smaller than other m/ts. Interesting... Might be able to get away with the 4.625 backspacing. If anything I'm not totally against going with their atz tire. Guess this is going to be hit or miss.
