Alloy Lug Nut Question

    I've searched everywhere for the answer to this question, but can't seem to find it:

    I've bought TRD OR alloy wheels to replace the steelies on my SR5 and need to buy alloy lug nuts. I've found that the alloy lugs are available in two lengths - 1½" and "extended" 2". Which are standard for the OR alloys?

    I'm not sure if the trd wheels use a conical seat style lug nut but if they do I believe you can use your factory lug nuts. I've had two different sets of wheels since I got rid of my stock steelies and I still have my factory lug nuts.

    The short ones are the "standard" option. When I switched my steelies I had to figure this out by checking out trucks that came with the TRD wheels from the factory and they come with the short ones. The longer ones would stick out a little bit, which is fine if you want them to look that way. Also, the longer ones cost more.

    You may or may not need to get new tpms (tire pressure monitoring sensors). The steelies TPMS have a different angle to them than the alloy wheels do. The angle that the valve comes off of the actual sensor varies about 20 degrees between the two; with one being almost flat and the other not so much. This can be remedied my flipping your current TPMS over 180 degrees, but risk some fool breaking them when they change your tires and you forget to tell them or if you get a flat. This will work fine and you won't have to pay for the new ones to be reprogrammed to your truck. I decided against flipping them cause I am just going to sell my old ones and found a cool garage (after much calling around) to reprogram for free (saving $100).

    On a side note, this is my first post, now I am contributing instead of lurking.

    Thanks to both Steve and UTKSmokey for their replies. I'll be ordering after-market lug nuts in the short size (~$25).

    I was aware of the TPMS problems and had seriously considered simply turning the steelie units 180 degrees. However, I hadn't thought about the possibility of breaking one with a flat tire. I think I'll go with used alloy units and sell the 4 from the steel wheels. I can program the new ones myself.

    You can buy a strap kit for your steel sensors too. Few threads on here about it.

    Thanks, I have looked into using the steps/bands. A set of 4 costs nearly as much as used monitors. If I can't find good used ones, I'll go with the bands.
