I just put 265/75/16 Duratrac's on my 1st gen a little over 3 weeks ago. So far i've not seen a drop in mileage that I can attribute to the tires.

I've run 2 tanks through the truck since mounting. The first tank was slightly under my average per tank while the 2nd tank was slightly over.

I can tell you that I like the solid feel of the "C" load tire and I've not seen any negative effects since mounting except that they do "touch" the frame rail on full lock with stock 2003 TRD wheels and a 3 inch lift.

I see a lot of folks suggesting the a Hankook ATM. I didn't have that great of luck with the ATM, as they wore (5k mike point) I found the wet traction lacking. More so than other tires I have run in the past. Maybe the Taco is drastically different, but in didn't like them on the 4Runner.

The Cooper AT3, Toyo AT and Nitto Terra Grappler are a few other options to look at. All in a P rated, not LT since weight is a concern

These tires just came out last August. I picked up a set this past January and have about 16,000 miles on them.

Although the look is unaggressive and understated, this set has by far increased the ride comfort of my DCSB. I've only had 2 previous sets, Revo 2's, and the stock Dunlops, and the Wrangler Adventure has given me the best off road grip, and on road ride comfort. They have a 60K mileage warranty too. Not cheap though...

I'm going to go with either 265 or 275. If I go 275, I will take off my Spidertraxx wheel spacers, but I think the 265's will be lighter.

I just went from a street tire at 39# to an AT tire at 52#. They both measure the same outside diameter, the AT is 1" skinnier.

With the AT tire it accelerates a bit slower and stopping is about the same. Where I really notice the difference is when the torque converter is always unlocking and the gear hunting on gentle grades with cruise control on while on the highway. I also saw a 3mpg loss even though I drive much more economically now. It's much more than just raw acceleration and breaking.

In my case a regear might help but for me I'm not sure it'll be worth the money. And besides I'm happy with my truck as it is.

The Grabber AT2's are a pretty darn heavy tire. FYI.

    44 lbs for a measily 265/70R16

Hankook DynaPro ATM RF10 Has the performance you're looking for in an inexpensive, lightweight, great traction yet surprisingly quiet at highway speeds tire. Aggressive mall-crawler for $100 less per tire compared to the BFG MS. As tire companies go they are also one of the most 'green' there is. Another extra bonus, not made in China (South Korea).
