Has any of these issues been narrowed down to a range of specific manufacture dates. Like when Dana started effing up the process? If your vehicle was assembled in a different state, are your odds better?

I did know about that, but I was wondering if Toyota/Dana discovered what month the frame treatment process went out of spec. Very unlikely, but oh well.

Is Toyota going to replace your frame?

Just picked up my truck. 3 days at the dealers (Bristol Toyota). Frame replaced, new LCA's and ball joints, new rear leafs, looks like some of the wiring in the rear was also replaced.

Still have the rusty hitch though. (I can live with that)

Congratulations ! Better rust proof it while it's new or U will B in the same fix a few year down the road - Oh wait maybe that's a good thing - just keep getting new frames - you know they won't bother getting good frames. Does it look like your new one is coated decently

Dealer called and said they would in fact replace my frame.
    But.
I have to pay for all the other garbage that rusted under the truck, which came to $3500. I agreed, and put up the money otherwise my truck would never drive again. I do plan to aggressively come back at them because one of the components that had to be changed were the wheel hubs, which were rust perforated, and those are critical components.
Total Toyota run around, sad, I did so love all my trucks. One thing to remember, never a good idea to buy the first year of a new model.

Boy, all the "other garbage" sure is pricey.

First, I'd be pissed that Toyota is causing you to have to replace the frame. Then, YOU have to pay $3500 to get it back to a "dealer" acceptable condition before they do/finish the work.

Just a thought. Did you consider .... If you pushed the dealer to buy it back at Kelly blue book and add in the money you would spend on the "garbage" could you get a newer/nicer vehicle without the frame rot.

I'd be all for giving a few hundred dollars or more to get the suspension up to snuff for anything that was well worn (i.e., Ball joints, shocks, etc.) but the $3500 you need to pay because Toyota used sub standard steel in their frames is just not right. Of course it is your vehicle and if you really like the truck - it's your call.

    Best of luck to you.

It was a take it or leave it deal, because Toyota hasn't officially opened its Limited Service Campaign in Hawaii.
I'm not done with them yet, but if I said "no" my truck is toast.

I live in Jackson, MI... A couple weeks ago I saw probably 3 truckloads of what looked like Tacoma frames (just like those) being shipped from Detroit to Chicago... There's definitely a lot more activity going on here than we are seeing currently

My local dealer has so many frames on pallets they have to stack them around the building. I was surprised to see a half dozen of them out front, you'd think they would want them hidden. When i drove around the back I realized why... they ran out of room back there with frames everywhere.

Did the dealer indicate you will need to pay for any misc. parts etc. for the frame replacement?? I'm real curious ....

Still haven't heard from Toyota on my frame called the dealer since they still had the wrong number listed. Was told that if they did replace it they want the stock parts. ....
At the inspection the commented that the cut cross member could have caused the rust..

They mentioned there would be a cost for replacing the shocks (I told them they were already replaced) or any thing not related to the base frame.

The issue is they are penny wise and pound foolish. First Gen frames rusted out - buy back & frame replacement - Second Gen frames rusted out - buy back & frame replacement. Ya can't fix stupid.

I have an '05 DC w/ 108K in Vermont. I was recently approved for a new frame (yey!) at Heritage Toyota. They let me know that if I wanted to replace some parts, they will install them with minimal labor charge.
I'm looking at leveling (bilsteins & eibachs), maybe replacing the rear shocks (tho the OME ones are only a year old), and a new hitch assembly so they don't put the old rusty one back on.
Any thoughts on other parts you recommend replacing while they are in there would be greatly appreciated.
(In the past 3 years I have all new brakes, axle seals & diff vent, plugs, tires, battery, shocks, ball joints, pinion bearings, power steering rack, & rebuilt rear diff.)

Did they inform you of any extra charges? Everything that has to be removed to replace the faulty frame should be covered.
