Hey guys and gals. Long time no activity for me. I'm at the automotive store and I'm wondering if this is the correct fluid for my rear differential. It's called extreme pressure year oil 80w-90. It's my first time changing it and I don't want to put the wrong stuff in. Thanks!!

Do you have the LSD rear?

If you have the LSD rear diff (limited slip differental) look for LSD sticker on your rear

You need to add friction modifier.

I use motorcraft 80w-90 oil along with one small 4oz. bottle of motorcraft friction modifier

No Sport model / LSD for me, so I don't need the modifier, correct? Thanks.

There was sludge on the magnet with some filings in it. Glad I changed it!

29,000. I think it's a bit below what they call for, but she's breaking in so I figured it can't hurt.

Does it make a difference if I drive a few miles then add more? I filled it until it came pouring out the fill hole. It should be good right?

Edit: is the stock oil 75w? Call me crazy but it seems a touch slower after the change with 80w.

I did mine at 30,000 also...wasn't to bad, but like you I'm gonna keep it at 30,000 intervals
My 05 only has 53,000 on it.

Don't let your power steering fluid go too long. I did mine over the week end at 53,000
Wish I did it at about 40,000

The power steering rezzy started to collect debri on its insides

    Used valvoline dex/merc atf fluid

All went well with the full flush, Nice and smooth...no problems with air

Thanks for the tip about the PS, I'll keep my eye on it! No sense putting extra strain on the pump right?

The way I understand it, you don't need the additive if you have a 2009 and newer because the LSD is electronic.

Power steering fluid is the most ignored fluid in vehicles
Better to get it out before it starts to break down
    Every 40,000 is fine
Here is the video I used to flush mine http://youtu.be/Jg9Yjt__KHw
Its exactly the same for the tacoma, accept you don't have to move the coolant jug
Purchase 7ft. Of clear 3/8" inner diameter hose along with a brass 3/8" hose adapter
Also see that short piece of tubing he puts on the rezzy. Put a bolt in the end of it so no fluid escapes.
Purchase 2 quarts of dex/merc atf fluid
