I've been a long time lurker on TW and finally decided to make an account. I hang out more in the supra/is300/lexus/2jz world and forums, but my girl drives an 07 taco so here I am lol. Yeah its kind of switched I drive the lexus is300 and she drives the Tacoma. I started to mod my car with suspension stuff, wheels, intake, exhaust. Then installed an LSD and did a 5spd MT swap. I was parts collecting so that I could do a 2JZ-GTE VVT-I twin turbo swap to my car, but my girl found my car fun to drive around town now, so I was driving the Taco. I love the truck and always wanted one, just never got around to actually buying one. Needless to say after driving it for a few weeks I got tired of driving a stock vehicle. So I got the bug and started to let the cash flow. My girl actually chose what she wanted like wheels, tires, and height. I just did all the homework to make sure that everything would fit, and I did all the install. Anyways enough of me blabbin about crap, here are a few pics so that if you guys ever spot us around town (mostly east valley).

Welcome. Save your pennies and leave the IS alone. After owning an 01,02,03,04 and modifying them all up and down, it's not worth it IMO.

Installing a VVTI GTE is extremely difficult, can be done but will have to run dual ECU's.

It's cheaper and mo'betta to buy a GTE long block, swap the heads and use the standard GE intake manifold and buy a single turbo kit from i.e. PFS. PFS has a great equal length tubular mani with a PT .67 or .70 AR kit that will blow your 5-speed manual W55 at idle.

I swapped a V161 6-speed at the cost of around $6500 which you will need a new tranny going turbo one way or another.

Cheapest route is swapping in a W58 5-speed but the gearing is taller.
Next route is a R154 with a bell housing adapter etc.
    Then a V160/161.

enjoy the IS and the Taco!

I have seen that Storm Trooper running around the rear window sticker is a dead giveaway lol. I am pretty new here too but the locals are a GREAT bunch of folks and so is everyone else.

Thanks guys! I also just installed a TRD exhaust last week, so if any of you locals have any use for the stock one let me know before I toss it. I still have a few things to do to the taco, rigid industries light bar or bars, UCA's, double din with back up cam using the 2010 taco tailgate handle, and not sure what else may come up.

signalbobby, I plan to just buy an aristo long block, reseal it, new head gasket, modify my harness, and run my stock ecu along with an AEM. As for a trans I'll go with an r154 and rebuild it myself.

Oh and yeah GO DUCKS! lol

    Sounds like fun.

Certain year Aristo long blocks have dual and single vvt-i which your stock ecu can't run either AFAIK. It can only run the oil hydraulic vvti sending unit on the NA cylinder head. Not sure what your plans on, you could also change out your cams to 264/272's and rid of VVTi entirely and run the standalone AEM.

Thanks again guys! Yeah we both work off of Elliot near the 10 so you will spot it up and down Elliot. Sometimes friday nights parked at San tan brewery or four peaks depending on what seasonal brew is on tap lol.

I'm pretty sure I've seen you a few times. I used to live off the 10 and Elliot for a few years. Worked off Elliot and Hardy for a few years as well. Now I'm living off McQueen and Chandler and work off 32nd St and the 10.
