Why does the 285x70x17 look beefy on some trucks and skinny on others? I want the beefy look. Im looking to get 17x9 AD Addicts. is the wheel the culprit?

    it's all in your head.

buy a tire because it works good, fits good, or is being sold at a good price.

buying tires that fit like crap but look cool is a little strange to me.

I think the offset of the wheel makes a big difference too.

thanks for your opinion. I, like others want a certain look thats why we do what we do to our trucks.

A 285x70x17 Nitto Trail Grappler looks way beefier than a same size Terra Grappler due to the tread. Get a tire that looks good... a boring tire is... boring.

    ALL KINDS OF SHIT
My guess is you have seen them on different width rims. The more narrow the rim the more narrow the tire will look. And there again, a rough tread tire with aggressive lugs has a much more beefy look than the same size tire in an AT.

Photographs distort reality. You can make an object look bigger or smaller depending on how you photograph it. In reality, the difference between 285's is minimal

Like others have stated, probably different wheel width and BS along with tire tread pattern AT vs. MT. Good example is Duratracs tend to make any truck look beefier.
