Basically stock. Hope to have the funds for a new taco or some mods down the line.
I was thinking about painting the chrome strip on the front bumper on my 2001 tacoma and was wondering if anyone had done this, and if so, what does the finished product look like and what did you use to paint it?

Yes, if you go the plastidip route it does come off. If there's multiple layers of it on you can wipe it off with wd40 it makes it easier

I believe I used Rustoleum professional (think thats the name. Comes in a tall silver can) matte black, and sprayed some crystal clear enamel over top. And Duplicolor vinyl dye on the plastic part. I screwed up the right side and need to redo it, but overall it looks good. ury2e2yh_6aa36d13ae1aabd3859a6163addc41ec44247f6b.jpg

Thanks y'all! Yeah I was thinking about using plasti dip along with the glossifier. I already plasti dipped the chrome grill because it was fading/eroding and wanted a change and figured why not try the bumper too. I'm not a fan of chrome.

Haha no one is. I think I'm almost out of the plastidip phase and now I want a color matched grill

    For the chrome coating:

wash with soap/water. Dry. Sand with 320 grit. Wipe clean. Wipe with Duplicolor Prep Wipe. Let dry (evaporates quickly). 3 light coats of primer. 3 light coats of rattle can (I used Rustoleum flat black painter's touch).

For the vinyl part I used Duplicolor vinyl and fabric dye.

It all looked good for about 1.5 years. Now the vinyl dye is coming off in places but the chrome inserts on my 98 bumper is still holding up very well. Just a spot where I dragged it across a rock wheeling and some minor rock chips from graveled roads.

Well my truck is black so it's close enough to a color match hah. I appreciate all the advice and tips. I think I'll do it this weekend.
