So I'm looking to put a 2013 radio into my 2010. I wanted a touchscreen unit, but had no desire for the Nav or Entune stuff. My plan is to install the radio, and at the same time get the USB hookup to dash, keep my steering wheel controls, as well as get the backup camera onto the screen. My truck didn't come with a backup camera, but is prewired, so had to source those as well.

I will be updating this as parts come in with pics, and when the install starts.

So I sourced out a 2013 radio on here from a member. (Thanks for the deal Earthy).

Next was a backup camera from a member as well. (Thanks 918LOBO)
Along with that is the harness an ebay seller makes for the camera to get re-routed to the radio instead of rearview. Since my truck didn't come with the rearview camera, this seems like a better option (and cheaper) then buying the rearview camera mirror.

Next is the connectors for the 2013 radio to hook up to the 2010. From the search function here, I found what I needed. I have no desire for bluetooth either. It seems like a cool feature, but I've always found them annoying, and hard to use. Since all I wanted was the basic features from the 2013 radio, I didn't need much.
20 pin to 28 pin connector so I can use the steering wheel controls.
Antenna adapter so the radio works.

Now to the USB debacle that I'm still researching.
The hook up for the radio to a stock USB/Aux is non-existent, but there are multiple options. The easy route is the cable that hooks into the radio and at the other end has a female USB port. From there you can run it to a knock-off USB/Aux port, but I'm thinking of a different route.

Both of these ideas are still in research.
One idea is the dual USB mount since I already have an AUX port. The dual USB port is a prius part as I understand. One port will connect to the radio via typical USB hookups, and the other is a charging only port. Issue is it looks like the charging ports has to be hooked to battery, and that looks like it will be a nightmare to run.

Other idea is there is an ebay seller that makes the cord that goes from the back of the radio to an OEM USB/Aux port. Problem being is it's for a Hilux. Still haven't found a good pic of a hilux radio to see if the rear port for the USB is the same as the tacoma.

Total estimated cost for the radio, camera, and needed hookups is $300. This comes in well below an aftermarket radio of similar function and maintains the stock look instead of an ugly aftermarket setup.

I will be interested to see how this works. I replaced my '11 stock radio with a JVC digital media receiver and love it. USB and Aux-in on the front of the unit. A tiny 32gb USB drive holds all my music and the receiver displays all the artist/song info. My only issue is the dash kit rattles a bit. Total cost was less than $100 and it sounds much better than the stock unit.
