Rear Suspension advice and help

Hey guys,

As you can tell i'm a newbie here, I tried searching for my questions, but with such varied setups I could not find the answer I was looking for. So I guess what i'm really asking for here is advice really on how to go about my rear suspension. I have an idea of what I want, but i'm a little stuck when it comes to the rear leafs and shocks. So I have a 2014 4x4 DCSB and I'm planning on putting Fox 2.5 coil-over IFP on the front, i'm looking for roughly a 2.5" lift. I did get some Icon UCAs which will go with this as well. So on the rear I also plan on going with Fox 2.0 Factory Series Reservoir shocks, they make two versions, one for 0-1" and one 2-3". For leafs, i'm either going with the Icon add a leaf or the Dakar OME leaf pack CS047RX2 i believe.

So i'm sure you would like to know about my usage of the truck. I plan on 70% on road and 30% off road, but I do haul somethings in it, nothing extreme, but I want it to be able to do it when I need it. Such as hardware store items, or tow as well when I need to. I'm not into the lifted front with low back look, I would like to keep it as even as possible, maybe even more with the rear higher, like it is from the factory. Of course, if my leaf choices are not ideal and you have other suggestions, i'm all ears. So i'm just trying to figure out which leafs as well as which of the two potential shocks up above i'm going with. Thank you to ahead of time to everybody on here!

 

If you are going 2.5"-3" up front I would go with a 2" AAL or leaf pack in the rear. I went with a full 3"s up front with a 2" AAL and it sits perfectly level. I'd go with the 2-3" Fox reservoirs in the rear if you want to sit level with the front or even be a little higher in the back.

 

I can't say that I recommend an AAL. I went AAL at first, and it was terrible. Lasted around 25xx-3k and I replaced the AAL and stock leaf pack with a full leaf pack. Do it once, do it right.

For what you want, it sounds like the dakar pack will fit your needs. I know it fits mine (occasional off-road but still need to haul and tow). Very happy with them. I also went with the

$77 D29XL Leaf Spring

D29XL added to the pack to increase the height by 15mm and increased spring rate for increased heavy load stability.

I carried roughly 8-900 lbs (gross weight of 6-7 humans) in a 4th of july parade a couple weeks back and there was no sagging. Really happy with my Dakars; highly recommended.

 

Thanks, I appreciate the input, I think the add a leaf from icon is a 1.5" lift and the Dakar's from OME according to Wheelers is a 2.75" lift, so that one may be a little much. Have to try to find something in the middle I suppose.

 

Lots of people that buy the Dakar pack and remove a leaf. That's another option too.

 

Very good points geekhouse23, and appreciate your input as well. Your suggestion was my very first instinct when I was looking at this, but well i've been looking at so many builds on here and i started to think maybe I was wrong.

 

I've had my 2" AAL since 2008 and it still sits well. But I only drive my truck on the weekends. You should be able to find 2" full leaf packs for the rear. Check out toyteclifts.com....they have a bunch of different lift options. Stay away from spacers and blocks though.

 

AllPro makes specialized leaf springs, standard and expedition. I have the standard and get 3" of lift all the time. I tow a boat as well as haul things when needed. Never squats like the stock leafs. If recommend these to you, they are also cheaper than the dakars and AllPro gives you a whole rear suspension package as well.
