Wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Mod, feel free to move to the appropriate forum if needed.

Headed out to New Mexico the 1st week of August and we are taking two cars. I'm looking for suggestions on a good hand held CB radio to keep tabs on traffic and such while on the road.

The radio needs to have a built in / on antennae but good range and in the $100.00 and less price range.

Any sugggestions and or first hand reviews would be appreciated.

    Thx, LF

I tried to use a handheld in my truck, never worked very good. Even adding an external antenna didn't help. Get yourself a Cobra 19 and a Wilson little Wil mag mount and you will have something decent for about $75.

    Thx Luse,

I presently have an older under dash mount Uniden that worked pretty well the last time I had it hooked up. I was wanting to get a hand held so as not to have to mount the radio and deal with an external antennae and a coax cable. The car, my wifes Volvo XC 90, will be packed to the brim with luggage and a dog crate as this is a cross country move.

Back when I had my POS Cobra 18 I had it stuffed down against the seat and console. That's a great spot for a quick temporary install. Get a cigarette power cord, slap the Wilson on the roof and go.

    I have this one...

It's not bad for a quick set up. I added a 2 foot antenna in place of the smaller one. It picks up a little more with that. But I only listen, so I never tuned it with the longer antenna.
