I am trying to do research for a College Paper..

I have been looking up Tariff rates and I don't know if Im just not using the right terms but I am not getting the search results I am looking for. So I am looking for some help.

I have found prices and average costs for lots of different aspects of the process, but I can't find prices per mile based on weight or anything similar...

I found Fuel surcharge rates... but nothing that show if you are charged by the mile aside from the Fuel surcharge.. anyone have any intel on the subject.

Also if anyone works with or in the Rail Freight industry any insight on the tariff rates or other info before I lose my mind digging into this as well.

I can't comment directly on your questions....and not sure if this helps or not.

I work for a printing company who produces catalogs/etc. I write invoices to bill the customers for the products we produce. There's sooooo many different types of freight involved. My company actually has its own freight service also.

Basically, the catalogs come out of our plants and are shipped to post offices - where they are then distributed. The freight we charge is the cost to deliver to the post offices.

Each customer (catalog) is under a variety of different types of contracts which includes pricing of all the product/services as well as freight & fuel surcharging. Anything that's within our own companies freight system, the freight rates are negotiable within the contract.

I'm very new to my job but I have learned (in my company), the freight is based on WEIGHT with added fuel surcharge. A skid can vary in quantity depending on the region (post office) its being delivered to. Each product has a piece weight and products vary in piece weight (thickness of catalog).

    Did I confuse you yet?

What types of rates are you looking for? I can try to give you examples (if I remember) but....like I said, the rates can vary by contract.
