Hey guys, I am currently in Afghanistan but when I return home end of summer my brother and I would like to take our tacos on an off-road/camping expedition for about 4 days. Meaning we start at one end of a national preserve and finish say 80 miles or so away. We want to get away from civilization and be completely self sufficient living off of what we pack in our tacos. We are from east Texas and will be driving up, so if anyone could please tell us which parks or preserves where we can do an expedition like this would be greatly appreciated. We don't want any trails that are gonna break our trucks. Out plan is to drive and off-road during the day and camp each night at different locations.

Thanks for the advice and help

Check out www.traildamage.com. They have all sorts of trails listed and even list the trails that connect to them. Should be able to plan a route with that site.

Depends on how capable your rig is... but Kokopelli Trail leaves just west of Grand Junction in Loma, Colorado and ends in Moab Utah. it isn't crazy technical but you'd want a lift and some recovery gear just in case. here's a link to a write up with a .gpx file

a couple rigs did it in a day and a half, but they said they didn't do much for picture taking or looking around as they had a deadline to be in Moab. so it can be done quick... average is 3-4 days I hear for groups of 4+... so if you guys take your time and enjoy the scenery and do the "top of the world" off shoot... you could turn it into what you're looking for
here's some pics from the trail
