Beach Lifeguard Using Tacoma, as it's as good on sand as it is on rock

Have you ever driven your Tacoma on a sand? What has been your experience? Did you feel the truck responds really well?

I have not, but must be really good that the City of San Diego (and probably many others too) is now using 34 Tacoma trucks to provide lifeguard services for its beaches.

Next week I am taking a vacation in Myrtle Beach. Going to look for the trucks that the local authorities use to provide lifeguard services on sand. Two years ago I think was Tacoma too.

 

I've had mine on the beach several times. It does great so long as you don't go where you aren't supposed to.

 

Definitely. Don't drive where people are and don't go into the water.

 

I alway take mine to the beach. Usually end up pulling trucks and cars that get stuck. Never had a problem with sand. Until......

Yes sir lol. Fell into a rut bigger than my truck

 

That was the only problem I ever had at the beach. Everything else was fine.

Texas beach, place called bryan beach.

 

Truck still runs and drives fine. Just a small electrical short that drains my battery lol.

It actually start right up after i got pulled out

I live an hour from the beach. I DON'T drive in sand. I use sand toys (JEEP, quads, buggy, UTV) for that.

I'd love to with my Tacoma but sand gets in every nook and cranny of the vehicle.

I tell my buddies whenever they get back from the dunes to change out all liquids in the truck. Sand is in everything.

What it boils down to is I HATE RUST!!!

It is a fucking blast though.....I use to do it with my Heep Wrangler. Good times!

 

Ive only gotten stuck a couple times. It was on very fine deep sand and an incline. But I put the traction boards down and I was out.

You are correct RAPR about "sand gets in every nook and cranny of the vehicle." But I didn't know that it even gets into the liquids and they need to be changed. Do you mean oil too?

 

These trucks are great in the sand, even stock.

 

I think that's a bit overly cautious. Awesome that you take such good care of your truck though. I used to take my 95.5 4x4 to the Glamis dunes all the time and never had a problem with sand. Never stuck and I only washed and vacuumed after each trip. The only time I ever changed fluid was when after one specific trip I came home and realized the power steering fluid cap was missing. I had that flushed just for peace of mind.

 

I think we all drive according to our own habits. Some of us are cautious others not.
