Makes weird rattle sound

My 2008 tacoma which I bought about two months ago just started to make a weird rattle sound in the front only when I start it or give it gas! It goes away after a little bit of driving! Any ideas?

 

It don't happen every time. It only has happened about 3 times in the past few months

 

If you're on bumpy roads, the rattle could be your brake pads.

 

POP the serpentine belt off and run the engine for diagnostic purposes , This will eliminate all the moving parts on the front of the engine .

Could be as simple as a loose heat shield for the exhaust. Very common issue.

 

If your "rattle" can be best described like a valve rattle just upon initial acceleration, it could be the cracked exhaust manifold. I had this happen to my 2006, I was convinced that they were wrong in their diagnosis, but it was spot on. There is a TSB for this.

 

Could it be the timming chain or not?

 

I've seen the timing chain on my '13. Unless one of the tensioners broke, I doubt it.

 

My '05 rattles like crazy at low rpms on start up, for me it is heat shields
