Wow, that little thing is awesome! I'm trying to get into Quadcopters, where's a good place to go and learn about them?

I spend a lot of time over on www.rcgroups.com. they have a massive section devoted to multirotors

Thanks! I did eventually find some decent sites. I found a lot of my google searches were returning spam sites.

I've actually started building my first multirotor. I decided on an F550 frame. It's nearly complete, just waiting on the lipos and the ESCs. Should be here this weekend.

Sweet deal! What are all the specs you are using to build your quad?

FAA is investigating it... they are also no longer issuing COAs for ops because of it...

it's another case of some hobby fucktard flying his RC quad like an idiot, and the "real" part of the industry paying the price.

On another note, sank the phantom when a cell in the battery went dead mid flight. time for round two. may build one this time :drevil:

    I went with the following:
    H550 frame
    6x Turnigy 980Kv motors
    6x HK Blue ESC
    HK KK2.1.5 FC
    10x4.5 SF props
    35-70c 4200mah Lipo

I also decided to pick up a frSky Tanaris Tx. I got everything assembled last night. Hoping to get it tuned tonight so I can get some fly time in this weekend.

Anyone looking for a GoProfessional water/impact proof hard case for a DJI Phantom? It holds the phantom, transmitter, charger, 6 batteries, phast shack goggles, go-pro, etc.
    Sells for $200 on Amazon
    http://www.amazon.com/Professional-...d=1406554166&sr=8-1&keywords=dji+phantom+case
Only difference with mine is that it holds 6 batteries, not 3, as the one in the picture shows.

selling for $100. +$20 shipped in the con. US.

Yeah, i'm building it this time. picked up everything at the local shop yesterday, and got it about half-way done last night. using the f550 hex kit. went with full autopilot this time :)

got a new spectrum dx7 to run everything.

only stuff i don't have is the landing gear and gimbal. but until i have the gimbal, i don't need the landing gear. need to do some more research to figure out what landing gear best suits what i'll be doing.

cool.. I still think DJI is crap, but it's better than 3DR in hobby grade flight controllers...

i browsed a lot of forums over the last week, looking into what i wanted. it is easy to see that there are superior systems, however, for someone still low on experience, like myself, the much larger troubleshooting, support, Q and A, etc network for the Naza made it a better option for this round. costs more money in the long run, but i've found that for the technical stuff, i do much better upgrading multiple times, untill i reach the point at level at which i'm happy.

    steps so far have been:
1: hobby grade 1sq - see if i like the multirotor segment of the rc world
2: phantom - see what gps and camera equipped RTFs can do.
3: 550 hex kit - experience builting one from the ground up and do some basic programming/figure out autopilot on an more basic system
4: all out hex or octo build with high end componentry. likely a lot more programming and setup involved.

at 3 now, with the 4th and and "final" stage coming in a couple of years i'd assume.

the Naza is more user friendly for sure... good luck getting info from DJI itself however... their customer service is pretty close to garbage.

the 3DR stuff is closer to the "programming and setup" stuff in number 4, but the code itself (and even the hardware) is garbage.

A buddy of mine works at 3DR and he is currently integrating the pixhawk into my old quad, so once I get it back from him, I'll give my impressions of the unit.

Now, if you want to spend 3k on a flight controller and have it fully autonomous (no RC transmitter in the loop), then send me a PM... :D

over on the west side of houston (outside beltway 8), there are 4 shops. RC hobbies, hobbytown, rc hobby shop, and then one in katy that i can't remember the name of. if you go inside the beltway, at the corner of bellaire and shimney rock, there is M&M hobbies. all of the shops have multirotor stuff.

i frequent RC hobbies and hobbytown the most because they are both within 5-10 minutes of me.

that was another reason for DJI at this point in my multirotor carreer. learned early on with the rc trucks that when learning, replacement part availibility is key.

i don't think i have ever had a desire to go to a manufacturer for support. i was referring to the co,,unity bases support, and like you said, how user friendly it is.

did't you tell mea about your buddy doing that work when we met to get that FPV setup? tasking a while isn't he ;P

While i would love to have one fully autonomous, i really have no idea what i'd use it for haha.
