My 14' ticked for the first 5k miles. Pretty bad actually. Just the last few weeks I started towing with it; a 5k# travel trailer. I intentionally made her work hard pulling up some steep grades. I figure if somethings gonna break I wanna know now. It pulls it quite impressively. And get this: no more tick. Go figure.

I haven't read much of this thread, and this may sound crazy, but:

For you guys that haven't changed the factory oil in your trucks, it could be that some of the tick comes from a lack of oil. I saw several threads flying around on TW that from the factory, people were getting their trucks ~1/2 quart low on oil. So it could be that something isn't getting enough oil to dampen the sound making it resonate more than a Toyota normally ticks. My $.02 :notsure:

Its been 2500 miles since my exhaust revision and my tick is still gone. Its the only thing that seemed to work. Also, I live in South Florida where the temp doesn't get below 60F and I've tried 10w40 and various other weights and haven't seen any significant change in my tick, so I'm steering towards it not being an issue with oil flow in and out of the VVT-i cam phaser oil valve.

VVTI = Valves Very Ticky Inside

My 2TR-FE has a little tick, but it doesn't bother me.

You want to hear a ticky engine, take a listen to a VW/Audi direct injected engine. The injectors are very loud and when you own one, you're constantly listening for it to get worse and more diesel-like which means the cam chain tensioner is going bad.

11 DBL Cab, 27,XXX miles, just bought it and yes-TICK! Traded a 01 Ext cab, long bed w/ the "Toyota tick" for this one that seems to be getting louder by the mile. I was also fortunate enough to get the annoying fan motor tick, but the engine is hardly noticible w/ the windows up. Step outside and you can hear it 30' away. Sounds like a diesel!! Reading this thread I'm not seeing too many solutions... Back to the "Stealership" I guess

My 2010 with 39k miles ticks at low speeds. I think it started around 33k miles. It must be engineering of the truck. Maybe it's more prevalent in certain altitudes or climates?
