I want to mount a cb radio under my cd player to make use of lost space. It seems that a compact one would easily fit in there. However I haven't come across a compact CB with NOAA weather capabilities and this is an absolute must have feature for me. I really want to mount it in the dash and not in some other odd ball spot. Does anyone know of a compact CB radio with weather???

Complete OME kit w/ 881's and dakars. All-Pro Sliders, CB, HAM Radio and various other minor stuff.
I'm planning to mount a Bearcat 980 with a small CD player where the factory radio is now. The Bearcat is the same size as a CD player so it should fit with minimal trimming. There may be radios the same size as the Cobra 19 or Uniden 520 with NOAA but I'm not sure.

The other option is to get a Midland 75-822. It's a handheld that comes with an adapter to run a vehicle antenna that also has NOAA. The nice thing about the Midland is you can disconnect it and store it or plug the batteries in and use it as a handheld.

The reason I went with the Bearcat is that it has NOAA but also has build in SWR and sideband.

When I was driving a 1st gen I had my eyes on the Midland 1001lwx because it also had NOAA and I wanted to mount it in that little ash tray space under the stock stereo. It has small dimensions but I never verified if it would fit there...but it would probably fit in a double din setup if that's what you're referring to.

In my 2013 I just went with a Cobra 75 handheld which also has NOAA, and I had the option of mounting it pretty much wherever I wanted. My option was between the Midland 75-822 and Cobra 75, and I felt the Cobra mounted cleaner and I didn't feel like cutting off the cig adapter the Midland handheld had and hardwiring it.

I have a Cobra 18 WX ST II that has NOAA weather channels and fits in my dash slot, "one DIN" size. No complaints from me.

IIRC I had to use a heat gun to gently press in a spot on the HVAC ducting behind the CB radio due to the rigidity of the antenna hook up on back of unit. My son mounted a Midland compact CB under his ashtray and I remember the duct work also came into play there but the heat gun again did a nice job gaining the space needed.

I have the midland 822. I have really only used it once, but I liked it. The brain is built into the mic, so there is nothing really to mount.

I have the same set up. IIRC I bought a 90 degree bend for the coax cable on the backside and didn't have any issues with fitment.

Hi Rucas. Nice set-up on yours! I like the way that looks. I know when I was getting ready to add a CB, I did some internet surfing to see what others had done. I do remember seeing the Cobra set-up in a first gen - it may even have been your photo! I too used the antennae elbow but still needed to compress that HVAC box ever so slightly just because I wanted a flush mount with the Kenwood unit above it.

Love the tally marks on your tailgate. Didn't even dawn on me to keep count! :D
