I have a I4 06 Tacoma with the 5-speed manual and a few days ago my truck started making a low pitch hum and vibrating when coasting down a hill. That was unsettling enough, but now it's getting worse. Now something is making a rattle/clunk noise when I come to a stop with the clutch disengaged(5mph-0mph). What's wrong with my truck?

Feel free to ask questions if you need more info.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

So I went outside and crawled under my truck. Drivelines/ujoints feel solid. I couldnt' find any signs of fluid leaks. I shifted it in and out of 4wd. It's still doing it. The whole truck vibrates when I brake to less than 5 mph. The symptom correlates with travel speed and not engine RPM. It's NOT a grinding sound. It's a mechanical ?rattle/knock?. It isn't brakes but it gets worse when I brake hard to less than 5 mph.

Somebody say something. I'm shitting bricks right now. I can't afford a major repair bill.

It was the u-joint. I took it down to U-Fix-It and fixed it myself. It cost $60 to rent their stall for 2.5 hours and the parts cost $30. It took forever because this is the first time I replaced a u-joint.

Hi. I have a similar issue. A rattling, clacking sound coming from the underside when I disengage the clutch while downshifting to stop or make a turn when going any bump in the road.

It does not cause a problem when the clutch is engaged. I can replicate the problem by coasting with the clutch pedal on the floor and moving along a bumpy road surface.

My truck is a 2013 with only 16000k and the dealer suggested the transmission was faulty.

I wonder, has the problem you had ever returned? I'm trying to see if my issue can be fixed without a need to remove and install a transmission.

    Thanks
