I have a 2005 SR5 DCLB; under the recall Toyota was supposed to scrape it down and paint it. An hour later I got a called that they were putting in for a new frame because they found enough rust to fail the frame.

The service dealer mentioned that now would be the time to get any shocks or other stuff done I wanted. I have a non TRD model.

I don't really off road, so never looked into the aftermarket shock stuff.

Are there any shocks or other mods I should do while they replace the frame?

Depends on the miles on your stuff. If you're still running factory stuff with alot of miles, it might be worth it to look into upgrading. Just beware of their service charges. Most suspension stuff isn't too complicated to replace on your own if you take your time.

I would examine what gets replaced as part of the frame replace

I think shocks go too, so see if you can find confirmation ( might be posted here ) of what
gets chucked out and replaced for free as part of the frame swap. I been behind toyota dealer
and seen cut up frames with leaf springs, control arms, and shocks laying there...looked to me they
    replace more than the frame

Anything that's more difficult to change at home. i.e. To me - rear shocks are easy. I'd not want to do ball joints or control arms. You might just get the dealer to install any stock OEM stuff for next to nothing. If you have the Moola fine - get it all done. But for me, I'd get the nasty stuff changed now and do the easy stuff at home. Depends on how much you can spend .... Oh Yeah Safery stuff First!!

I would ask specifically what they replace with the frame job like earlier mentioned... I would think that a lot more than just the frame is going to be done..

If you do any upgrades with them make sure they give you their cost for the parts.

IF YOU HAVE A NEW FRAME.

Just took me 4 hours on monday to do my rear shocks alone. Thanks to not being allowed to use a torch and all the rust on everything.

"30 minutes to do the front shocks per side" is bullshit unless the truck is brand new or you live in the southern US with no rust on your truck.

Yep, same here! Rear shocks were rusted on as well as that BS undercoating helped glue the nuts in place. Finally used a sawzall to get them out. Front were a pain.,.had to screw them in & around the sway bar. One side, for some strange reason....the back nut, closest to the inner fender. I could only turn one click on the wrench,,.,took way more than 30 minutes per side

I wouldn't bet good money that the service guy is fishing, trying to see what he can get you to pay him to replace. Being that you have a 2005 that's lived in New England it's entire life, most of the stuff like lower control arms, springs, shocks, etc will be rusted on and unable to be removed. I would tell them to replace the frame and leave it up to them. If they have to cut off your shocks because they're rusted on, let them pay to replace them. If you truely do want to do things to your truck, get the truck back with a brand new frame and fresh bolts, then swap out what you want. It will be much easier to do with new bolts and no rust anyways.

Bingo! Upselling..... he's not there to save the customer money, he's there to have his hand in your pocket and get what you let him take.
