OK so I just had some fun in the garage.
First off, DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND OF OIL PAN: http://www.walmart.com/ip/RhinoGear-10-Qt-Oil-Drain-Pan/20440557

The caps/seals on them don't seal at all and leak oil!
After noticing oil leaking from one of the seals, I tried to tighten it further and the other (larger) cap POPPED OFF and about 3 quarts dumped out all over the garage floor (cement).

For a majority of the oil I used paper towel to soak up and placed it in a trash bag. I have kitty litter on what's left right now to hopefully suck some up from the cement...

Two Questions: 1) How can I properly dispose of all the oil-soaked paper towel, drop-cloth, and kitty litter? and 2) Any recommendations on how to clean the cement of the leftover oil? I'm renting this house and so I need to clean it up all the way :(

    Damn!

Use speedi-dry. The good stuff that you get at a good parts store, not from pep boys, auto zone or any of those. Spread it out and grind it in with you feet really well to lift the oil. Sweep up and repeat. That will pick up the majority of the stain. For what's left, you may need to wash the floor with a degreaser or even Tide and a stiff broom. I put the used speedi-dry in the trash where I live.

I have one similar to that and I've had it leak on me. I don't transport it anywhere. I just drain the oil into it and then pour it into the empty oil jug for transport to the recycler. Also another recommendation for speedy-dri. It's pretty good to lift the oil off the floor.

wipe up as much as you can. moisten the floor and sprinkle on some old fashioned Tide in the box. Let it sit for an hour, scrub it and rinse it again. That should help a bunch.

El Cheapo kitty litter works well too. Any brand engine de-greaser will take care of any left over oil stain...

My oily rags and empty oil containers, which are not recyclable, all go to the dump. As far as cleanup, I can't add to what has already been said:thumbsup:

    Thanks for the replies everybody.
Kitty Litter worked pretty well for about 95% of what spilled -- will have to try a bit harder on what's left.

I know its too late but when you do this place some large pieces of cardboard down to catch anything you don't catch.

With the kitty litter take your heal and really grind it into the stains....
...if you aren't already doing it.

Oh I had a whole spill pad down during the oil change... my spill occurred 3 days later when I noticed oil leaking from one of the outlets on my catch can. Tried to tighten it and the other cap popped off!
