Overheating!! 2.7

    97 tacoma 2.7 5spd
    Lift,header,manga flow,k&n,4:88, dynatrac,electric fan,slotted drilled rotors,ARB bumper,
    Belts are good. Compression test 160-180 in all cylinders. Temp sending unit is reading max out when I can touch the coolant with bare hand. I take the sending unit out leave it connected to harness and it reads cold, put it in it says maxed out. Ordered new sending unit. When the sending unit was out I started the engine to see if there was any flow coming out and there was. Not much but some. So tomorrow I will replace sending unit and start from there. Maybe replace the water pump. Will also try new cap.

    Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
    Just a wild guess...
    Check to see if your thermostat is upside down. If it is, the heat sensing element is on the cool side and it won't open. You want the heat sensor to be on the engine side so the hot coolant leaving the engine block will make it open to allow the coolant to circulate through the radiator.
