Years ago, when they were Cigarette lighters, the power outlets in cars were hot, no key required. ( that way the kids could entertain them selves burning holes in the seat covers when Mom and Dad made them sit in the car for acting up,,,,,,) Anyway, what was wrong with that? It isn't like your cell phone is going to suck the battery dry and the truck won't start. Come on folks, we are adults driving trucks..... I guess I'll have to wire it myself. Already did so on the Highlander.

In todays PC world I challenge anyone to find a car that comes with a cigarette lighter in their vehicle VS and empty hole with a cover labeled as a "Power Port"

Hell, my 1986, 2 1988's, and my 1989 didn't even come with a cigarette lighter. I had to go all the way to 1994 before I got a lighter / power port (and A/C, power steering, intermittent wipers, and the basics). My 2008 didn't even come with intermittent wipers.

Nothing wrong with it, not a clue as why the Jap companies dont wire one hot. Many American cars have them wired in this way of constant 12v. Just rewire one or both of your sockets, something I am planning on doing

My German car has it with a timed relay that allows for about 2 hours of being hot then it will turn off. In my truck, I just use the outlet connected to my second battery. :)

i've known people that ran their battery down before in a cig lighter that stayed hot all the time. they left something plugged in all night or something. it can happen.

    i guess it's just a safety thing.

eh no need to charge anything while the truck is turned off anyways. it will keep kids from setting your truck on fire.

My 2009 regular cab came with a cigarette lighter. I keep it in the glove box.

Yep, I have the lighter, no use for it but to plug the hole. Wish they had given us a way to quickly make one of the sockets hot. Like add a fuse to an empty slot.
