I parked my Taco in the garage last night w/o problem.
This morning I cannot get the button on the shifter (automatic transmission) to push down which would then allow me to shift into gear!

I tried to rock the truck back and forth but that didn't seem to help.

    Any suggestions?!

I have a 2nd gen, but had a similar issue. Do you have an override? Try that for the time being. Then, check any fuses that pertain to braking. Do your brake lights work?

I replaced my fuses and so far so good. Mine only happened intermittently though, so if it reoccurs i'll get a a new brake lamp switch. Also, do some searching for "stuck in park" or similar on here and you will find loads of information. Bets of luck!

Checked! The rear brake lights were not working with the brake pedal depressed.
Pulled the fuse (under the dash) and it was toasted.
Put a new one it and I'm "back on the road again" - thanks for the suggestions!

Grey wire and keyless entry. I like stock.
Don't you love when its a simple two dollar fix? Rarely happens to me. That or its a ten dollar seal and a week of digging to replace it (for example: my trucks f#cking transfer case input seal - took WAY longer than it should have).

I had the same thing happen to me two weeks ago. I had recently plugged in some trailer lights and I'm thinking a short must have blown the brake lights fuse. Thanks to TW I was able to figure it out. As a side note, if you are towing and you lose your dash lights - that means you've lost your tail lights and trailer lights as well.
