so let the bashing begin:crapstorm: but I am still kinda new to the whole truck thing and want to know a few things so I don't break anything.

    I understand how H2, H4, and L4 work...
I understand how the D-4-3-2-L work...

but would it be functional to use them together? is it redundant? or would it break something? (using L4 and then shifting to L, 2, or 3)

I had to tow someone out of a ditch, easily did it in H2 but got wondering if I needed more power.

On an automatic transmission, no point in taking it from drive. L4 is where the strongest gear will be. The transmission will stay in 1st gear as long as you're not spinning your tires.

In H4 or L4, dropping the gear selector from D (5th gear) to the lower ones, will just prevent the truck from up shifting, so watch the tach and don't over-rev.

I didn't even think about that, good call. But once the rpm's start climbing, does it automatically upshift? I had a truck in the past that would do that no matter what to protect the motor and transmission.

Not as far as I have found , I've gone down some pretty steep hills with the truck in 4L / L and have had the revs up to just about red line and it did not shift out of L , but did an excellent job of limiting my decent speed
