So I put in a claim for hail damage on my roof and really thought it would be denied. We had a hail storm come through here back in March and I heard some people were getting new roofs, called my insurance company just in case and had them check it out. Sure enough a few weeks later I got a check for the depreciated value of the roof, about $8,700. I put it in my savings account and got a few estimates which came to $12,000. The insurance guy said once I get it replaced they would send me the additional $4000 for the new price value once it was replaced. I've been really busy with work and haven't gotten it done yet, I actually forgot all about it. Today I get a letter in the mail and the are notifying me that they are not going to renew my policy because of No evidence of Reparation of prior claim, condition of roof. I haven't talked to anyone yet so I'm not sure what I need to do yet. Anyone have any ideas? Anyone work in the insurance or roofing business? Did I screw myself on this one?

This is business as usual .. nothing new. Money was paid out, no evidence that repairs had been made. All you have to do is call them, explain to them your schedule, hopefully it was for a good reason, something in the line of an unplanned event.

    They will work with you.

    In business, communication is key.
