I read that there are chips that can increase mpg and horsepower. Is this true? What's a good one?

As far as I've read BullyDog is working on something, but as for now there's not much.

None that I know of and as far as increase in power not worth the money. A good computer tune to set it up properly is all that is needed. Want power and speed it costs how fast do you want to go . My best performance mod ever was a supercharger (not on my Tacoma). Costly but effective.

Chips like "bully dog" only really work on turbo diesel trucks because they can run different maps which cause an increase/decrease in boost, resulting in more hp or better fuel economy.

yes and no. yes the chips/programmers like this only really work on diesels, no its not because they simply increase boost. On a gasser there's only so much you can do as far as tuning, timing and richin/leaning fuel, but you can only play with timing or lean it out so much before you get detonation which is not a good thing. On a diesel you can essentially just keep adding fuel and increase the power(boost won't increase without fuel). In the old days this is how people would get more power out of diesels, poor the fuel to it, but then you risk burning a whole in pistons because unlike gassers diesels run hotter with more fuel. Also this is how you get god awfull amounts of smoke like you see from all the flat brimmers in daddys cranked up Cummins. Luckily technology has advanced and most people in the diesel world have wised up and realized even diesel performance works better with a proper fuel/air mixture which means high power with little to no smoke.

anywho don't waste money on a chip/programmer for a gasser. The best thing is to have a custom dyno tune done but even then gains will be minimal.
