The rear cat on the truck was stolen. I am considering going with a magnaflow bolt on but have the option of replacing it with a used cat taken off to upgrade an exhaust system. I would like to save the cash but fear that any hidden underlying issues with it could end up causing other costly problems. So question is am I being paranoid or is it worth the risk? How bad could it be right! What would your concerns be?

No answer for your actual question, but just to raise another, since it's the rear cat, why replace it? Just add a straight pipe. The rear cat is not monitored and if you have emmissions checks, it would only fail a visual where they knew it was supposed to have two cats.

Also just noticed you have an 03, I'm not sure that the above statements on the rear cat not being monitored are true or not. Need someone with Gen1 knowledge to answer that.
