I have an 02 Tacoma 2wd prerunner with TRD package and when I stop, I feel and see the shifter sort of bump. I have seen several issues with this and have some questions. It seems pretty common, but does it cause serious problems in the longrun? Also, is there a cheap fix besides replacing all of the rear leaf springs? Or will that for sure even fix it? I've also seen several posting suggesting a new driveshaft or messing with the splines. Any help is appreciated, I am just trying to solve this problem as quickly and cost effectively as possible!!

Some shifter movement happens sporadically but yeah what you describe is another text book side effect of axle wrap, weak stock springs , you need to add a couple leafs or bite the bullet & get a new leaf pack, but you want cost effective, totally understandable, theres a lot of choices /name brands/ theres even guys in here that'll build you a set cost effectively too...;)

EDIT: Heres an example of cost effective

I had the same issue as you. I went to Autozone and bought a set of $14.99 U-bolts and tightened them over my stock springs forward the rear end. It took care of the problem until I can replace the worn out springs. Do a search titled "Goodbye axle wrap mod", a lot of good info on that thread.
