Normal or weird?

Sorry if this has been covered, but I couldn't find anything.

I have a 2011 TRD Off Road Access Cab. Been researching into upgrading the sound system. Basic head unit with new speakers an amp and a sub.

All the literature and videos I've seen show the rear speakers in the cab doors with a hole/grate where the speakers are.

Here's the weird part, my doors don't have the speaker grates and the speakers aren't in the door's, they're on the roof of the rear part of the truck under the head liner.

Mind = Blown

Can someone explain this for me? What's the deal?

Very interesting, guess I wasn't sure what to search Lol. Since we're here, what "real" speakers will fit back there?
