Gotcha gotcha! So only money back in savings will be a scan gauge monitor my driving, which essentially is direct saving but close

At altitude, 3000 feet here, the supercharger actually competes well with a stock truck for mileage. When my truck rolled off the lot I got 18 mpg for the first 10K. Then the supercharger went on. Now I get 18 mpg lol, and I don't baby the thing. The only place where the supercharger has really hurt my mileage is when I tow my 5000 lbs travel trailer.

The supercharger is the only mod where you will truly feel as a huge change in the HP and torque the truck puts out. If you want more power, save for the supercharger. If you're happy with the feel of the truck now, don't waste your money.

Headers tend to decrease the mileage for the V6 from what I've read on here. I've also read that when a good set of long tubes is sitting behind the supercharger and tuned properly you can get some outstanding power numbers. Though all this power will come again at the expense of some fuel economy.

I agree that the Scangauge II is hands down one of the best improvements you can make to your Tacoma. Not only will you be able to regulate your driving habits to get better mileage, you can now also see the true engine and transmission temps your vehicle is pulling as well as much more. It's an excellent damage prevention tool whether you tow or just commute to work. It's already paid itself back for me in my eyes.

I'll probably save up for it, coming for a 335whp wrx, it's only appropriate to have a supercharger! And I've seen some of the builds on here and they're monsters, so when I can drop the thousands I will

But I'm definitely getting a scan gauge, cause I've only heard good things about them

Sorry, I'm not used to all 4 seasons. Just moved to N. WA from Southern CA... I'm approaching this coming from driving a highly modded 550hp 1968 GTO, to a 159 hp 2011 Tacoma, no mod, base model... Obviously, I'm way out of my depth on this. But, in this application, sounds like it makes good sense to do. Depending on how the weather gets this winter, I might be using this as reference...

I'd really like to get a supercharger for my 2.7, but the prices to do a safe job of it with all related parts and labor, have been flat out retarded, & just really ridiculous from what I've been able to research. Baby Tacos get very few choices in aftermarket land...

The URD kits aren't much more price wise than a TRD kit for a V6 when you factor in that the URD kit needs an engine management system. The URD also performs more like a turbo and is well suited for street use vs the TRD kit which I see as being tuned for offroad. Those are just my opinions of course.

Why not cut costs and do the install yourself with a few buddies. From what I read one solid weekend is at most what you'd have to put in.

Yeah, a supercharger is NOT happening for me. For all the cash it costs, the power return is appalling! $4700, and all that was gained was 66hp? Boooooo!!! Looks like all those Car Craft mags will have to be put into practice on my Taco... If the SC price reflected the power gain, $900-$1K, then yes. Plus, my truck is still under warranty for 3 more yrs...

Don't forgot to start a build thread so we can all follow your results :D. Whether good or bad it's great to see what others are doing to help future modders gain direction and confidence.

Gaining 66 hp on a on a 159 hp motor is 42% increase in power. That's a lot more than a little boost. Definitely more that $1000 worth in most peoples minds. There is simply no replacement for displacement without boost, and even boost has it's limits. Also, Gadget has lots of dynos of guys with headers, pulley resizing, and tuning that pull well over 270 hp, which would be a gain of 70%. Those aren't numbers to sneeze at. Gaining 10 horsepower out of a small displacement engine isn't going to be the same as gaining 10 horsepower out of your muscle cars significantly larger displacement v8 engine. Good luck and have fun, I hope to see a good build thread soon.

Take a look at what some guys on here have into the custom turbocharger or supercharger setups. In most cases it makes Gadgets forced air upgrades look extremely thrifty especially since Gadgets upgrades bolt on and work relatively flawlessly.

I paid just over $6K for my TRD supercharger in Canada this year. I don't think I payed a penny to much for the way it changed my truck. It now pulls hard off the line and never has that out of power feeling above 50 mph that the stock Tacoma V6 does when passing on an undivided highway.

I get you. But, it's still too much $$$ for me to justify. A tad bit more torque would be helpful, though. I'll have see how my personal economy does over the next year... If & when I do start to wrench on my truck, it will be documented, for sure!
